For searches that are looking for many types of service providers such as ‘coffee shop’ or ‘PR agency’, Google’s algorithm tailors the results to include businesses that have been identified as providers of that service within the geographical area that you are searching from. These appear both in the normal, ‘organic’ results and in the Google Local box that usually includes a snippet of the Google map. Recent changes to how this is displayed have put these local results right at the top of page, taking up much more space and so receiving more clicks.
